world's smallest magnetic sensor

NEC has announced that it has successfully developed and commenced full-scale production on the world's thinnest class of magnetic sensor at just 0.35 millimeters. Known as the "MRUS61C", the new product will be used for power and backlight switches in folding mobile phones and notebook computers, detecting the opening and closing of these and other similar devices. The NEC MRUS61C adopts a unique structure formed by the layering of magnetoresistive elements on IC circuits, achieving the world's thinnest class of magnetic sensors at a thickness of 0.35mm. The MRUS61C delivers a 36% reduction in the mounting space required when compared with NEC's existing models.

Scientist find way to stop cancer

A multinational team of researchers has found the immune system can stop the growth of a cancerous tumor without actually killing it. They say when the cancer cannot be killed with immune attacks it may be possible to find a way to use the immune system to contain it.

The study calls the cancer-immune system stalemate equilibrium. During this state the immune system decreases the cancer’s drive to replicate and also kills some of the cancerous cells, but doesn’t do it quickly enough to eliminate or shrink the tumor.
